SchoolFacts

Terms of use

Last updated 13 August 2026. These terms are a plain-English agreement between you and Varcombe Ventures Limited for your use of SchoolFacts.

1. Who we are

SchoolFacts (this website, schoolfacts.uk) is operated by Varcombe Ventures Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under number 17394715, with its registered office at 82a James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds IP28 7DE ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at info@varcombeventures.com.

2. What SchoolFacts is

SchoolFacts brings together published information about state-funded schools in England: inspection outcomes, performance measures, admissions data and similar, drawn from the Department for Education, Ofsted and local authorities, and presented in one place. Most of the underlying data is public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We are independent, and not affiliated with or endorsed by the DfE, Ofsted, or any school or council.

3. Information, not advice

Everything on SchoolFacts is general information to help you do your own research. It is not advice, and it is not a substitute for the official sources. We take care to present data accurately and honestly, but we do not warrant that it is complete, current or error-free: source data is updated on its own timetable, schools change, and figures are sometimes withheld or restated at source. Always confirm anything that matters (grades, admission criteria, catchment, dates and places) directly with the school and the relevant admissions authority before you make a decision. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions you make in reliance on the site.

4. Admissions odds and address check

Our admissions odds and address-check features estimate how a home location compares with a school's past cutoff distances. They are estimates from historical data: not predictions, and not a guarantee of a place. They use a straight-line distance from a postcode centroid, which can differ from a council's own measurement (some measure walking routes), and they cannot account for sibling priority, faith or aptitude criteria, banding, changes to admission rules, or the number of applicants in any future year. Please do not treat them as a promise that a child will or will not be offered a place. Admission decisions are made solely by the admissions authority.

5. Premium (the season pass)

Some features are available with a paid season pass (£19 for 6 months at the current price). Buying a pass gives the named account access to those features for the pass period; it does not transfer any data to you or grant rights beyond personal use. Prices and the included features may change, but a change will not reduce a pass you have already bought for its current term. Payment and cancellation are covered by our refunds and cancellation policy.

6. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity under your account. An account and pass are for one person; please do not share them. Tell us promptly if you think your account has been used without your permission.

7. Acceptable use

You may use SchoolFacts for your own personal, non-commercial research. You must not scrape, bulk-download, resell or systematically extract the site or its data; attempt to bypass access controls or the paid tier; disrupt or probe the service; or use it unlawfully. Public sector data shown on the site remains freely available from its original sources under the Open Government Licence; these terms govern the SchoolFacts service, not the underlying open data.

8. Intellectual property

The SchoolFacts name, design, text, layout and the way we compile and present data are owned by us or our licensors. The underlying school data is provided by the DfE, Ofsted and local authorities under the Open Government Licence v3.0 and must be attributed accordingly. You may share links to our pages freely.

9. Other sites and services

SchoolFacts links to, and relies on, third-party services (for example postcode lookup, mapping and payments). We are not responsible for the content or availability of other websites, and using them may be subject to their own terms.

10. Our liability to you

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or under your non-excludable rights as a consumer. Subject to that, we provide the site as it is; we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from data being inaccurate, out of date or unavailable; and our total liability to you in connection with the site or a season pass is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

11. Your consumer rights

If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Where anything here conflicts with those rights, your rights prevail.

12. Changes, and ending access

We may update, suspend or withdraw features, and we may update these terms; the "last updated" date above shows when. If a change materially affects a season pass you have already paid for, it will not reduce what you paid for during that term. We may suspend access that breaches these terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. Please contact us first at info@varcombeventures.com; most things are quicker to sort out directly.
